Joint fluid injection therapies

This treatment provides relief from knee pain without drugs or surgery.

In a healthy knee, natural fluid cushions the knee joint. In a knee with osteoarthritis, this fluid has usually deteriorated. Fluid injection therapy involves injecting hyaluronic fluid into the knee joint to replace diseased joint fluid, reduce pain, and improve mobility. Joint fluid therapy (brand names Synvisc® and Supartz®) may help you return to a more active lifestyle.

Your physician may recommend these FDA-approved injections if you haven't benefited from more conservative therapies or pain relievers. Fluid injection therapy can often help patients reduce their knee pain enough to delay the need for knee replacement surgery. Most injection therapy treatments provide knee pain relief lasting from weeks to months.
