Heart & Vascular Care
Valve Clinic
Valves are very important structures that help direct the flow of blood through the heart. When valves do not work properly, symptoms may arise that can limit an individual's ability to function normally.
At Prevea Health, our approach for early evaluation and monitoring of valve disease is a priority. Utilizing recommendations from the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology, patients with valve disease can be evaluated and treated effectively to relieve symptoms and preserve the function of the heart.
A strong heart is in everyone's best interest and at Prevea Health, our staff of board certified cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons utilize equipment such as echocardiography that is nationally accredited in quality, safety and accuracy to help visualize valve disease. This information is helpful in determining whether continued surveillance, medicines, or surgery is necessary.
If you have known valve disease and been told you have a murmur, the valve clinic is for you. Most appointments will take two hours and involve:
- Obtaining comprehensive medical history
- Physical examination
- Echocardiogram (painless ultrasound of the heart)
- Meet with any of our Board Certified Cardiologists or Cardiothoracic Surgeons to discuss test results and together develop a plan of care so you leave knowing exactly how you are doing.
The valve clinic is located on the first floor of St. Vincent Hospital in the Prevea Heart & Vascular Clinic. The valve clinic is held on the first and third Wednesday of each month.
